David Nalbandian is an Argentina based professional tennis player. Currently, he is ranked 24th in the world singles ranking. He is born on January 1, 1982 in a small town named Unquillo in Cordoba province of Argentina. He is 5 feet and 11 inch tall. His father is of American origin and mother is Italian. He started playing tennis at the age of five. He won Junior US Open singles in 1998 and Junior Wimbledon Doubles title in 1999.
David Nalbandian turned out to be professional tennis player at the age of 18 in the year 2000. He was listed in ATP top 50’s list in 2001. Nalbandian got title wins at ATP Basel Open in Switzerland and Estoril Open Tournament in 2002. He also entered Wimbledon finals but lost to Lleyton Hewitt of Australia.
In 2003, he reached the finals of Rogers Cup and semi-finals of Wimbledon. He was defeated both times by American player Andy Roddick. He made an impression by defeating Roger Federer in Wimbledon and ended at no. 8 position in the world. Again in 2004, he did now win any title and lost his finals in Madrid Masters and Italia Masters. In 2005, he got two championship titles. He defeated Andrei Pavel of Romania in Munich Open and Roger Federer in ATP World Tour Finals. He was ranked no. 6 player. And in May 2006, he won the Estoril Open Tournament for the second time. Nalbandian also reached the finals of Davis Cup and finished the year at no. 8 spot.
In 2007, David Nalbandian faced abdominal, back and leg injuries. His rank felled down to no. 26. His fortune changed at Madrid Masters, where he defeated Rafael Nadal in quarterfinals, Novak Djokovic in semis and Roger Federer in finals to win the tournament. At Paris Masters, he defeated Rafael Nadal in the finals. Nakbandian’s rank improved and he finished the season again entering the top 10’s list at no. 9 spot. In 2008, he finished at no. 11 spot winning Copa Telmax at home soil and Stockholm Open. Again in 2009, he faced injuries. He won the Medibank International Sydney tournament but he went for a hip surgery and was unavailable for the rest of year.
The injuries continued in 2010, restricting him from matches. However, he was able to win a championship title in Washington. He returned in 2011 winning many matches but is has not won another title yet.
Apart from injuries, the 29 year old player has won 11 championship titles in his career including the Masters Cups. In 2007, he became the third player to defeat world top 3 players in a single tournament. He also became the person to win Paris and Madrid Maters in a single season since Marat Safin in 2004. Other than tennis David Nalbandian has a keen interest in rally cars and football. Nalbandian made his debut as a race driver in a local rally in 2007. He is also an admirer of Club River Plate.
